Project Profile: Moatize Mine
Project Start Date: 1st Quarter 2008 (Q3 FY 2008)
Project Finish Date: 1st Quarter 2009 (Q3 FY 2009)
Sedgman undertook the detailed design of this 4,000 t/h process plant, one of the world’s largest single-building, four-module CPP. It will process up to 26 Mt/a of raw coal and maximise recovery of coking coal from separate mining areas in Mozambique’s Tete Province. Sedgman successfully delivered detailed design for the plant with construction featuring ‘on-ground’ erection of large sections to be lifted into place to allow a greater degree of safety. As well as being the largest plant in the southern hemisphere, the Moatize CPP design sets the benchmark world-wide for high capacity coal processing. The key driver is maximising coking coal recovery. The CPP includes:
- Four by 1,000 t/h modules each containing two stages of dense medium cyclones (DMC),
- spirals and Microcel flotation cells
- Proven equipment which is simple to operate and maintain to cater for the remote location
- A centralised control room and electrical switchroom adjacent to the CPP
