Project Profile: Sonoma Mine
Project Start Date: 3rd Quarter 2007 (Q1 FY 2008)
Project Finish Date: 1st Quarter 2009 (Q3 FY 2009)
Sedgman undertook the greenfield detailed engineering design, construction and commissioning of a 800 t/h coal handling and preparation plant (CHPP). Sedgman now operates the plant. Sedgman ensured the project was completed without lost time injuries, on time and within budget. Several upgrades including a flotation upgrade have now also been completed successfully.
Stage 1 involved installing a single-stage DMC, spiral and flotation plant. Campaign processing and discrete stockpiling via the radial stacker focused on coking coal production with ability to produce and separately stockpile a thermal or a premium ultra-low volatile product as required. Stage 1 was designed to accommodate the later implementation of Stage 2. Stage 2 involved a second DMC module and product handling system to enable two-stage processing and hence simultaneous production of coking and higher ash products. The raw coal handling system included a 200 t ROM hopper, feeder breaker, secondary sizer, roller screen and tertiary sizer discharging on to the feed conveyor. The flotation upgrade was stage 3.
