Project Profile: Moranbah North Mine

Project Start Date: 2nd Quarter 2002 (Q4 FY 2002)

Project Finish Date: 3rd Quarter 2010 (Q1 FY 2011)

Sedgman carried out resource evaluation, a feasibility study, design, construction support and commissioning of a 1500 t/h coal handling and preparation plant (CHPP) for this underground mine. The mine was commissioned in 1998, then in 2002, Sedgman designed a dense medium bath (DMB) reject rewash for the plant. Particular design emphasis was placed on the long-wall interface, moisture reduction and fines recovery. Sedgman also undertook detailed design of all surface infrastructure, including road and rail access, raw water supply and distribution, power supplies, environmental design and management, site roads, mine support buildings and offices. The Moranbah North CHPP features:

  • 6,500 t/h raw coal receival and sizing system
  • 150,000 t raw coal stockpile with stacker and reclaimer
  • 1,500 t/h reclaim, 500t surge bin
  • 1,500 t/h CPP with DMB, dense medium cyclone and froth
  • flotation preparation plant
  • 300,000 t product stockpile with stacker and tunnel reclaim
  • 4,500 t/h product coal reclaimer and auto weigh train-loading bin
