Project Finish Date: 4th Quarter 2003 (Q2 FY 2004)

Sedgman undertook the detailed engineering design, procurement, construction and commissioning of a 450 t/h coal handling and preparation plant (CHPP) on a greenfield site. The design enabled a subsequent economical expansion to 600 t/h. Sedgman now operates the plant under contract. Sedgman built a robust plant that consistently produces above requirements at 475-480 t/h. Sedgman developed an innovative tunnel construction method, thus reducing tunnel height. This significantly saved on earthworks and construction man hours. The low-maintenance plant also featured the ability to duplicate the original dump station with provisions made for raw coal dump hopper extensions. To reduce costs, the dump hopper was built into the ground (below the surface). The CHPP was compact and occupied a small footprint, with space allowed for plant capacity to increase. Innovative use of AutoCAD-based software provided pictorial representations. The product conveyor and train loading conveyor were designed to extend to five different stockpiles.
