Overview

Sedgman Limited was established in 1979 and has become a leading provider of multi-disciplinary engineering, project delivery and operations services to the global resources industry.

The company is the market leader in the design, construction and operation of coal handling and preparation plants (CHPPs) and has gained international recognition for its coal processing and materials handling technologies.

In 2002, the Thiess Sedgman Joint Venture (TSJV) was created as a commercial delivery vehicle for large engineering services projects throughout Australia. This joint venture was established in conjunction with Thiess Pty Ltd, one of the largest construction, mining and services providers in the Asia-Pacific region.

On 8 June 2006, Sedgman achieved a milestone in its corporate life with the successful listing on the Australian Securities Exchange under the symbol 'SDM'.

Sedgman expanded into the metalliferous sector in December 2006 with the acquisition of ore crushing and screening services provider, Pac-Rim. This was complemented with the purchase of minerals process engineering and project management company, Intermet Engineering, in July 2007.

Operational Structure

Sedgman has grown from less than 150 people in 2002 to over 650 as at June 2008.

Health, safety and environment are major focuses for Sedgman. A number of key initiatives were implemented during FY2007 to underpin the company's objective of a workplace free from injury and harm to people and the environment.

In servicing its local and international client base, Sedgman operates from offices in Brisbane, Mackay and Townsville (Queensland); Perth (Western Australia); Beijing (China); and Santiago (Chile), with representation in Johannesburg (South Africa).

Both Australian and international resource companies characterise the company's quality client base, which includes Anglo Coal Australia, BHP Billiton, Coeur d'Alene, First Quantum Minerals, Gold Fields Australia, Macarthur Coal, New Hope, Peabody, QCoal, Rio Tinto, Vale and Xstrata.

Sedgman is also committed to supporting the communities in which it operates, having supported the Central Queensland Helicopter Rescue Service, the Combined Brisbane Rotary Clubs Art Spectacular, the Movember charity event for male health and the Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy among other corporate social responsibility activities.
