Intermet Projects
Simberi Gold Project
Allied Gold Limited
Simberi Island, Papua New Guinea
Intermet Engineering provided engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) services for the plant and infrastructure. The plant consists of a 2 Mt/a CIL gold plant fed from two main ore bodies. One of the ore sources is remote, necessitating an aerial rope conveyor to transport the ore to the central processing facilities over mountainous terrain. The conveyor is 2.7 km long, with spans of up to 800m and traverses an area of deep gulleys from the mine site to the process plant site on the coast, where a haul road would have been impractical to construct.
Engineering commenced in April 2006 and culminated with a detailed engineering design review in 3rd quarter 2006. Commissioning commenced in December 2007 with the first gold pour being achieved in February 2008.
Kinsevere Copper Project
Anvil Mining Limited
Katanga Province, Democratic Republic of Congo
Intermet Engineering provided the engineering, procurement (EP) and logistics services for the crushing and HMS plant, Stage 1 of the development of the Kinsevere Copper Project in the DRC. The plant consists of a three-stage crushing and scrubbing circuit followed by an HMS plant to produce a medium grade copper concentrate suitable for direct smelting to black copper. The plant is designed to process 500 kt/a of ore.
Following the successful commissioning and ramp up to above design capacity of the crushing and HMS circuits, Intermet Engineering provided engineering and procurement (EP) services to evaluate, design and procure a spirals plant for the recovery of copper from the slimes, which are untreatable in a HMS circuit. The design is complete and commissioning is expected in the 3rd quarter of 2008.
Palmarejo Silver Gold Project
Coeur d'Alene Mines Corporation
Sierra Madre Occidental Mountains, Mexico
Intermet Engineering are providing the detailed engineering and procurement (EP) services for the 2 Mt/a silver/gold flotation/CIL plant and associated infrastructure. The plant is expected to produce approximately 430 tonnes of silver and 130,000 ounces of gold per annum.
The project, located in the Sierra Madre Occidental Mountains, is especially challenging due to the nature of the region which has necessitated the mining of benches to accommodate the plant. Road access has also proved to be challenging with 200 km of mountain tracks being upgraded to a standard suitable for heavy equipment transport. Preliminary engineering commenced in September 2005 with environmental approval obtained and kickoff of detailed engineering in June 2006. The engineering phase of the project is now complete.
Jaguar Copper/Zinc Project
Jabiru Metals Limited
Leonora, Australia
Intermet Engineering undertook a bankable feasibility study for the Jaguar project in 2005. In November 2005 Intermet Engineering provided engineering, procurement (EP) and commissioning services to complete detailed engineering and procurement of the Jaguar Copper/Zinc Project.
The flotation plant, capable of a throughput 365 kt/a, involved the relocation of the decommissioned Cadjebut flotation plant with suitable modifications to meet the metallurgical requirements of the Jaguar ore.
Guelb Moghrein Gold Circuit Upgrade Project
First Quantum Minerals Ltd
Guelb Moghrein, Mauritania
Intermet Engineering are providing detailed engineering, procurement (EP) and commissioning assistance for the upgrade of the 2 Mt/a gold flotation and CIL plant, along with associated infrastructure in Mauritania, NW Africa.
The plant includes the design and construction of a new bank of flotation cells, refurbishment of a 1.1MW regrind mill and upgrades to the existing CIL, electrical and plant services.
The project commenced in November 2007.
Phu Bia Gold Project
Pan Australian Resources Limited
Phu Bia, Laos
Intermet Engineering provided engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) services for the construction of a 2 Mt/a gold heap leach plant and associated infrastructure at the Phu Bia Mine site in Laos.
Following the completion of the bankable feasibility study, detail project design was commenced in August 2004 and work began on site in October 2004. The plant was successfully completed in June 2005 below budget. Since commissioning the plant has successfully ramped up to meet design throughput and gold production targets.
Dikulushi Flotation Project
Anvil Mining Limited
Dikulushi, Democratic Republic of Congo
Intermet Engineering provided detailed engineering, procurement, supervision of construction and commissioning of a 350 kt/a milling, flotation plant and power station upgrade at Anvil Mining Limited's Dikulushi mine site in the DRC.
The flotation plant replaced the existing heavy media separation plant, originally installed in 2002, increasing plant throughput, copper recoveries and concentrate grade. Design commenced in October 2003 and the plant was successfully commissioned in August 2004. Since commissioning the plant has exceeded throughput, recovery and concentrate grade targets.
Guelb Moghrein 3.87 Mt/a Upgrade Project
First Quantum Minerals Ltd
Guelb Moghrein, Mauritania
Intermet Engineering are providing detailed engineering, procurement (EP) and commissioning assistance for the upgrade to 3.87 Mt/a of the Guelb Moghrein Copper Project. This involves the upgrading of the copper flotation, concentrate storage, flotation thickening and associated infrastructure.
The project includes the design of a new bank of rougher flotation cells, new vertical mills, the refurbishment of an existing mill and an additional 113 km water pipeline.
The Guelb Moghrein Project was originally designed by Intermet Engineering to treat 2 Mt/a and was successfully commissioned in June 2006.
The upgrade project commenced in April 2008.
Nifty Heap Leach Re-Mine Project
Birla Nifty Limited
Nifty, Australia
Intermet Engineering are providing the detailed engineering and procurement (EP) services for the 3 Mt/a Nifty Heap Leach Re-Mine Project. The project will involve the re-mining of the existing Nifty heap leach pads, scrubbing of the material and desliming using screening and hydraulic classification to remove clay material that has previously impeded heap leach recovery. The coarse material will be restacked on the pads for leaching and the fines will be thickened, neutralized and disposed of in a tailings storage facility.
