Sedgman Metals Engineering Projects

Boseto Copper Project

Boseto Copper Project
Discovery Metals Limited

Maun, Republic of Botswana, Southern Africa

The EPC contract for the development of the Boseto Copper Project, awarded to Sedgman by Discovery Metals Limited (DML) has progressed significantly since civil construction activities commenced in March 2011. The project is located some 90 km from the township of Maun in North Western Botswana.

Site earthworks are complete, with the bore-water holding dam and the overflow dam finished with PVC lining. The construction camp provided by DML is fully functional and has accommodation and catering facilities for some 300 workers. Civil work is well advanced with the ball mill, primary crusher, fine ore bin, conveyor foundations and secondary/tertiary crusher structures all nearing completion. Structural steel fabrication work is being done in Manila, Philippines and is planned to be finished by the end of June 2011. Major equipment is being delivered to site and unloaded by the dry plant mechanical/structural contractor; a 270 ton crane will be mobilized early July 2011 to correspond with the lifting of the ball mill onto its foundation. Flotation, concentrate storage, thickening and filtration and tailings thickening and disposal foundations are under construction. Electrical contractor selection is imminent and the bore field (four production bores) installation will commence in June 2011 following a successful bore water development program. The construction site safety record includes zero lost time injuries with approximately 150,000 man-hours worked on site. The engineering design is predominantly complete with the procurement packages planned for completion by early July 2011.

Commissioning activities are planned to commence in early 2012.

Kinsevere Copper Project

Kinsevere Copper Project
Anvil Mining Limited

Katanga Province, Democratic Republic of Congo, Central Africa

Sedgman provided the engineering, procurement (EP) and logistics services for the crushing and HMS plant, Stage 1 of the development of the Kinsevere Copper Project in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The plant consists of a three-stage crushing and scrubbing circuit followed by an HMS plant to produce a medium grade copper concentrate suitable for direct smelting to black copper. The plant is designed to process 500 kt/a of ore.

Following the successful commissioning and ramp up to above design capacity of the crushing and HMS circuits, Sedgman provided engineering and procurement (EP) services to evaluate, design and procure a spirals plant for the recovery of copper from the slimes, which are untreatable in a HMS circuit. The design was completed and commissioning effected in late 2008.

Palmarejo Silver Gold Project

Palmarejo Silver Gold Project
Coeur d'Alene Mines Corporation

Sierra Madre Occidental Mountains, Mexico, South America

Sedgman provided the detailed engineering and procurement (EP) services for the 2 Mt/a silver/gold flotation/CIL plant and associated infrastructure. The plant is expected to produce approximately 430 tonnes of silver and 130,000 ounces of gold per annum.

The project, located in the Sierra Madre Occidental Mountains, is especially challenging due to the nature of the region which has necessitated the mining of benches to accommodate the plant. Road access has also proved to be challenging with 200 km of mountain tracks being upgraded to a standard suitable for heavy equipment transport. Preliminary engineering commenced in September 2005 with environmental approval obtained and detailed engineering commenced in June 2006. The engineering phase of the project is now complete.

Jaguar Copper-Zinc Project

Jaguar Copper-Zinc Project
Jabiru Metals Limited

Leonora, Western Australia, Australia

Sedgman undertook a bankable feasibility study for the Jaguar project in 2005. Sedgman provided engineering, procurement (EP) and commissioning services to complete detailed engineering and procurement of the Jaguar Copper-Zinc Project.

The flotation plant, capable of a throughput 365 kt/a, involved the relocation of the decommissioned Cadjebut flotation plant with suitable modifications to meet the metallurgical requirements of the Jaguar ore.

Guelb Moghrein Gold Project

Guelb Moghrein Gold Project
First Quantum Minerals Ltd

Akjoujt, Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Northwest Africa

Sedgman provided detailed engineering, procurement (EP) and commissioning assistance for the upgrade of the 2 Mt/a gold flotation and CIL plant, along with associated infrastructure in Mauritania, North West Africa.

The plant includes the design and construction of a new bank of flotation cells, refurbishment of a 1.1MW regrind mill and upgrades to the existing CIL, electrical and plant services.

The project commenced in November 2007.

Dikulushi Copper Flotation Project

Dikulushi Copper Flotation Project
Anvil Mining Limited

Katanga Province, Democratic Republic of Congo, Central Africa

Sedgman provided detailed engineering, procurement, supervision of construction and commissioning of a 350 kt/a milling, flotation plant and power station upgrade at Anvil Mining Limited's Dikulushi mine site in the DRC.

The flotation plant replaced the existing heavy media separation plant, originally installed in 2002, increasing plant throughput, copper recoveries and concentrate grade. Design commenced in October 2003 and the plant was successfully commissioned in August 2004. Since commissioning the plant has exceeded throughput, recovery and concentrate grade targets.

Guelb Moghrein Copper Project

Guelb Moghrein Copper Project
First Quantum Minerals Ltd

Akjoujt, Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Northwest Africa

Sedgman provided detailed engineering, procurement (EP) and commissioning assistance for the upgrade to 3.87 Mt/a of the Guelb Moghrein Copper Project. This involved the upgrading of the copper flotation, concentrate storage, flotation thickening and associated infrastructure.

The project included the design of a new bank of rougher flotation cells, new vertical mills, the refurbishment of an existing mill and an additional 113 km water pipeline.

The Guelb Moghrein Project was originally designed Sedgman to treat 2 Mt/a and was successfully commissioned in June 2006. The upgrade project commenced in April 2008 and was completed in 2009.

Birla Nifty Copper Mine

Birla Nifty Copper Mine
Birla Nifty Limited

East Pilbara, Western Australia, Australia

Heap Leach Retreatment

Sedgman provided the detailed engineering and procurement (EP) services for the 3 Mt/a Nifty Heap Leach Re-Mine Project in 1993. The project involved the re-mining of the existing Nifty heap leach pads, scrubbing of the material and desliming using screening and hydraulic classification to remove clay material that has previously impeded heap leach recovery. The design enabled the coarse material to be restacked on the pads for leaching and the fines to be thickened, neutralized and disposed of in a tailings storage facility.
